Pocket Music privacy policy
Pocket Music ("the app") is a chord loop, metronome, tuner and set of music tools by flamedots, an independent studio run by one person (formerly PixelAI Lab). It works without an account, and everything you make stays on your phone. The free version shows ads; Pocket Music Pro, a one-time purchase, removes them and unlocks more of the app.
In short
- No account, no sign-in. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
- What you make, record or import stays on your device. We cannot see it.
- The app sends anonymous usage data to Google Analytics, which you can turn off in Settings.
- Without Pro, Google AdMob shows ads and collects data to do so. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you are asked first.
- Purchases go through Google Play or the App Store, checked by RevenueCat with an anonymous ID.
What stays on your phone
Your loops, drum and note patterns, studios, recordings, notes, the songs you open in Practice, and your settings are stored on your device only. The app does not upload them. Songs you open in Practice are read where they are, with the chords worked out on the phone. Files you export (MIDI, audio, loops) go where you choose in your phone's save dialog.
Your phone's own backup (Android backup to your Google account, iCloud or device backup on iPhone) may include the app's data, under your account's settings. We have no access to it.
Microphone
The app asks for the microphone when you use the tuner, the chord listener or the recorder. Sound from the microphone is analysed on the device, kept only if you save a take, and never sent anywhere.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is used to find and play a Bluetooth MIDI keyboard you choose, and to use a Bluetooth headset as the microphone. On Android 11 and older, Android requires the location permission to scan for Bluetooth devices; the app does not read or store your location.
Notifications
The app asks whether it may show notifications. It includes Firebase Cloud Messaging, which gives this installation a token so it can receive a notification; we do not store that token, and the app does not send notifications of its own. If we ever send an announcement, you can turn notifications off in your phone's settings.
Anonymous usage data (Google Analytics for Firebase)
To learn which parts of the app are used, the app sends Google Analytics the screens you open and a few events: for example finishing the introduction, exporting a file (its format), starting the chord listener, reading chords from a song (how many and how long it took), and steps in the Pro offer such as opening it or buying. Each comes with the app version, device model and operating system, language, an approximate location (country) from your IP address, and an identifier for this installation.
It never includes anything you make, your recordings, sound from the microphone, or your name. On Android the app turns off the advertising ID and ad personalisation signals for Analytics. Usage data is on by default; turn it off at any time in Settings, "Share anonymous usage data", and the app stops sending it. Google describes how it handles this data at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Settings fetched from Google (Firebase Remote Config)
When it starts, the app asks Firebase Remote Config for a few settings: the oldest version still supported (so very old versions can be asked to update), a maintenance notice, and what the free version includes. This sends Google the app version, the operating system and the installation identifier. It does not depend on the usage data switch.
Ads (Google AdMob)
Without Pro, the app shows a banner ad at the foot of the Tools and Settings tabs and in the Library list, never on Home or over a tool. You can also choose to watch a rewarded ad to use Pro for a limited time.
To choose and show an ad, measure it and prevent fraud, Google AdMob collects your device's advertising ID, your IP address (and from it an approximate location), information about the device and the app, and how you interact with the ad. Google may use it to personalise ads, as described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland the app asks for your consent through Google's consent message before any ad loads, and you can change your answer in Settings, "Ad privacy choices". Anywhere, you can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your phone's settings. Buying Pro removes the ads.
Purchases (Google Play, App Store and RevenueCat)
Pocket Music Pro is a one-time purchase made through Google Play or the App Store, which handle the payment; we never see your card or payment details. The app uses RevenueCat to check purchases, restore them on a new phone and grant Pro after a rewarded ad.
RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID it creates for this installation, the purchase (product, time, price) and its store receipt, the app version and operating system, and, through its AdMob adapter, ad events (an ad loaded, shown or tapped, and its revenue) and the ID of a rewarded ad you watched. It receives no name or email address. See revenuecat.com/privacy.
Other apps from flamedots
On Android, the app checks whether our other apps (Sideman, Shedlog) are installed, only to show "Open" instead of "Get" in its list of our apps. Nothing about it is sent anywhere.
Who receives data
| Service | What for | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics, Remote Config, Cloud Messaging (Firebase) | Usage data, app settings, notifications | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Google AdMob | Ads in the free version | policies.google.com/privacy |
| RevenueCat | Purchases and rewarded Pro | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Google Play, Apple App Store | Payment | Their own policies |
We do not sell your data, and we do not receive any of the above in a form that identifies you.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Your choices and deleting data
- Delete any loop, pattern, studio, recording or note from the Library. Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on the phone.
- Turn off usage data in Settings. Change ad consent in Settings, "Ad privacy choices" (where offered), or in your phone's ad settings.
- Data already sent is held by Google and RevenueCat under their policies. Because the app has no account, we cannot link it to you; if you want help with a request to them, write to us.
Changes
When the app changes what it collects, this page changes with it and gets a new date above.
